When you prayer, do you mainly focus on the big things in your life? Do you ever pray for the little things? Should you pray for the little things?

I love nature and I love to see animals in their natural environments. I remember one time, my husband and I went for a drive up into the mountains. Before we left, I prayed to be able to see a bear in the wild. I had never seen a wild bear before. It was the beginning of fall so I knew it was near time for the bears to go into hibernation but i still asked God. As we drove along we enjoyed all the scenery, beautiful trees and streams. Then I noticed something moving in one of the trees. It was a black bear cub way up high. We stopped the care to watch it for a few minutes before it climbed down and ran off. I thanked God for such a great opportunity. I always feel so close to God when I see such things in nature.

I also love to see bird of prey in our area as we drive around our city. When I see one, it always makes me think that God is showing them to me to say He loves me. So each time I see a bird of prey, I pray to say thanks to God for all His blessings in life. It brings me such joy and I think God understands how it makes my heart sing to see them and that makes Him smile.

But back to my question, do you pray for the little things in life or do you only trust God with the big items? Luke 16:10 shows us

“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.” 

I think this is true with our relationship with God also. If we trust Him with the little things of our daily lives then He knows we trust in with the bigger things of life. He wants to be in a relationship with us. That kind of relationship includes talking about all our wants and needs, big and small. God is like the good father. What good father does not give his children the things they ask for especially when they are the small request that bring the most joys sometimes. Luke also goes on to show this to us in the following verses.

Luke 11:10“For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.11“Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? 12“Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? 13“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”

Our mission trips have provided us with lots of opportunities to see animals as well. Below are photos from two trips. The first is in Kenya and the second is in Nepal. In Kenya, we had a few hours to pass before our flight home so we went to visit an animal orphanage (since we love orphans). As we walked around, the guide asked us if we would like to go in and pet the cheetahs. I thought he was joking and we laughed. The guide went on the explain that Cheetahs are the only big cat that once domesticated does not ever return to his wild nature. I felt God nudge me to say, you love my nature so trust me. I did and we went in and what a blast to be able to pet a cheetah. They purr loudly like your house cat and they like their belly’s rubbed. Who knew? In Nepal, the monkeys live around most of the Hindu temples and the monks care for them. I wish I could say we got to play with them but they are mean and bite. It was just such a blessing to see them and get photos of them.

Trust God will your small request and see what happens. Also please remember to still pray for Nepal and for our orphanage in Kathmandu.
