Masterpiece

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Beautiful artwork can be so awe inspiring. I especially love the works of the Old Masters and the Impressionism artists. We have been so blessed to visit some world renowned museums during some of our mission trips. We got to spend a few hours at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia during a youth mission. We saw many priceless works of arts from many different periods of time. My favorites were the paintings by the Dutch Masters. I could have gazed at some of these paintings for hours. I had really hoped to see the “Prodigal Son” painting by Rembrandt but we never could find it in the museum. Even so it was still an incredible opportunity to see such incredible art.

Another incredible artist, but much less know to the world, is my precious granddaughter. She is 14 months old. The picture attached to this blog is one of her many finger-painting masterpieces. Since I actually own this original, I keep it pinned up in my office so I can enjoy it throughout my day. I would like to claim she gets her artist abilities from her grandmother but I do not have any painting talents. She is an artist in her own right. Her art brings me joy.

Nature also provide us with some great masterpieces. To stand on a hilltop and look across a wide fertile valley to see Mount Everest rising into the clear blue sky is a work of art. To gaze out our plane window and see the vast expanse and emptiness of the Sahara desert stretch on and on as far as the eye can see is another work of art. To stand at the edge of the Grand Canyon and marvel in the colors found in nature is yet another work of art. Nature is full of incredible beauty that we can see and touch and experience. The master artist of such magnificent beauty provides all of them to us for our enjoyment because of His great love for us.

I see God creating so many incredible things. I see this especially as I watch my granddaughter grow and learn so many new things during that first year of life, I am amazed at how God created each of us as a work of art. It is easy for me to see the artist at work in my granddaughter while she is still so young and so cute. It is much harder for me to see the masterpiece in someone that has been harden by life and discarded by the world. Seeing a beggar on the corner does not bring beauty to my mind. Yet, we must learn to look at everyone around us as God sees them. Each person is a beautiful work of art. We must learn to look through the Master’s eyes to see the beauty within each person. Nothing created by God was a mistake. He created each and every one of us on purpose and made us beautiful in His sight. So the next time you see someone and want to judge them, think of them as a work of art that was created by a loving Artist. We all are His masterpieces. God made us in many different shapes, sizes and colors.  Each one of us is unique and beautiful in God’s eyes, a masterpiece. The world would be a better place if we all learned to treat each other as a piece of precious art.

May the Lord Bless you and keep you.
