Ebenezer

1 Samuel 7:12 “Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, ‘Thus far the Lord has helped us.’

Bah, Humbug. I am sure this blog is not what you thought it might be.

I really enjoy the movie Scrooge. It is one of my favorites and I try to see it every Christmas season. It gives me a warm happy feeling to watch and puts me in the holiday spirit when I see it. One thing I noticed is how much the movie reminds me of my Christain walk. Like the movie, my life was a mess until I met a ghost only in my case it was the Holy Ghost that changed me.

Recently at my church, my pastor talked about Ebenezer. He explained that Ebenezer is a item in the bible but not a person. The meaning of the word Ebenezer is “stone of help.” This was the memorial stone set up by Samuel to commemorate the divine assistance to Israel in their great battle against the Philistines, as shown in the verse above. The pastor then challenged us to find the Ebenezer in our life to remind us how the Lord has helped us this far in our lives.

I went home and pondered this request. I thought how much I loved seeing wildlife, especially Hawks. The Lord then spoke to my heart and revealed how the Hawks I loved to watch could be my Ebenezer. Each time I saw one in the wild, I would use it to thank God for keeping me safe so far. Seeing the Hawks as my Ebenezer has been such a blessing because it always reminds me to thank God. I challenge each of you to find an Ebenezer and watch how the Lord blesses your life.

May the Lord Bless you and keep.
