Blind to Trafficking?

Proverbs 14:31 “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”

Do you see me?

A Poem by Yvonne Morgan

I was a happy child playing in the yard

Full of laughter and hope, a life far from hard

Dreams of a future, a life full of bliss

Thoughts of friends, maybe a first kiss

Do you see me?

No jobs and too many bills to pay

My parents tried to cope in every way

Soon the poverty too much of a hump

We dug for food in the local trash dump

Do you see me?

My world would change, suddenly darken

Upon my father’s voice, I did harken

Sending me to a land so far away

To work as a maid, to go without delay

 Do you see me?

All of these lies to my family were told

Instead of a maid, my body was sold

Beaten and raped, locked in a room

Servicing 20 men daily would be my doom

 Do you see me?

Pregnant and sick and so very alone

My life is wasted my heart does groan

No hope for a chance of life outside my cell

I lose myself to the darkness of this hell

 Do you see me?

So many turn a blind eye to me

Strangers, the only chance of rescue, you see

If no one helps, I will surely die

Please do not ignore my desperate cry

Do you see me?

The Lord is the hope of all lost souls

And, He calls us to rescue and console

What will you do to help others this day?

Please pray the Lord will provide the way

Do you see me?

God calls all of us to do our part in solving for the problem of human trafficking. We need to help those in need as seen in Psalm 82:4 “Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
