Perfect is a word I would use to describe the weather yesterday. As I walked between buildings at work, the sun shone on my face and warmed me all over. A temperature in the mid-60s meant I could leave my coat behind as I walked outside. I heard a gentle breeze rustle peacefully through the leaves above me, as I felt it blow my hair. The tall prairie grasses in the flower beds swayed in a rhythmic dance. I work near an airport, and I watch the planes lift into the wind to destinations unknown. Tranquility wrapped me in the crispness of a fall morning.
Psalm 104:4 “The winds are your messengers; flames of fire are your servants.”
Last week offered a very different scene here in Oklahoma. Fierce storms blew in with 70 MPH winds. Trees ripped up by the gales, lay across streets instead of gently swaying in the breeze. Power poles snapped in half plunged homes and business into darkness. Menacing skies forced everyone to stay indoors unless necessary to venture out. The prairie grasses looked beat down. The planes raced into the heavens to escape the effects of the winds. A cold, darkness filled the city with unpleasantness.
John 3:8 “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Throughout the Bible, we see God in the winds of life. From the gentle breezes that blew through the Garden of Eden to the air that caused raging storms on the Red Sea. The light gusts calmed Adam and Eve while the strong winds caused Jesus’ followers to tremble in fear. Psalm 104:4 tells us “The winds are your messengers; flames of fire are your servants.” God is in the wind. He can stir up the winds, or He can calm them. Jesus does the same with the storms in our lives. When chaos blows all around us, God can calm the storm. Then when things are peaceful, He can stir up the winds to move us to action.

Psalm 107:29 “He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.”
The breeze of today reminded me of God’s gentleness and grace. The winds from last week told me of God’s power and might. I use these symbols to remind me of God throughout my day. Jesus is always with me no matter what kind of wind is blowing.

Matthew 28:19 “Therefore, GO and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
Yes! Praying! So thankful God is in control.
Me too
Praying right now. This storm is awful. Very scary. Father, please calm the storms. Amen
Amen
I really like storms. I have felt what you’re describing, God’s power in the wind. I remember a clear time when God spoke to me about it. He tolt me I like storms because I might get wet but I’ll never be swept away. It was a really salient moment in my life. Thanks for sharing this and we’re praying for those affected by Florence.
Praying that people hear God’s voice in the storm and the calm afterward. God bless!
I’m so thankful God is in control of the winds and the waves! I love when storms roll in (obviously the ones that aren’t destructive) because I see God’s power in them.
Powerful analogy, Yvonne. Love all the tweets but especially, “Jesus is always with me no matter what kind of wind is blowing.” Amen, my friend!
Thanks for all your encouragement
Praying for a few people I know in the area and others. Thank you for sharing.
That was beautiful. I felt as if I were there with you. I love how you brought in Psalm 104:4. Praying for those in the path of the hurricane and all those who will be affected by the resulting weather. Be safe.
Thank you

Dear Yvonne!
I can relate to this Yvonne. I’m used to strong winds, typhoons and hurricanes back in the Philippines.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by fear when the winds are coming.
With love!
Edna Davidsen
Thanks Edna. We were scheduled to y through the Philippines last year but got rerouted because of typhoon
