Turmoil and pandemic seem to dominate the news. World events leave us feeling stressed. Our anxieties rise as we watch and wait on the Lord to calm our fears. In these moments of chaos, I long to find peace and rest for myself also. As I pondered these overwhelming feelings, the Lord gave me the idea for a poem. I hope it helps to remind each of us that we can only find peace in Christ. Jesus reminds us to “Come to me and find your rest.”
Seeking Peace and Rest
The world appears full of darkness and sin,
These problems cause our sorrow to begin.
We seek and search to find peace for our souls,
God sees us as we struggle through the tolls.
If we watch He will offer us each a sign,
A smile from God provides us a life-line
God says, “Come to me and find your rest.”
Rumors of wars spread thru the lands,
My heart fears, and I wring my hands.
Where should I go to find my peace,
I offer up prays for the strife to cease.
Suddenly, I see a dove circle in the sky,
A smile from God to remind He is nigh.
God says, “Come to me and find your rest.”
The skies darken, and the winds howl,
Snows, tornadoes, or hurricanes growl.
Where should I go to find shelter from these storms,
God, please save me from each new danger that forms.
Soon, I notice a crocus bloom appear in the snow,
A smile from God showed me His mercies still flow.
God says, “Come to me and find your rest.”
Evil lurks in the darkness of the night,
Demons wait to prey on children of light.
Where can I go to escape from my sinful way,
I pray for God to save me each and every day.
The stars and moon twinkle their reply,
A smile from God lighted the night sky.
God says, “Come to me and find your rest.”
Death and disease in our world abound,
Impacts on every family can be found.
Where can I hide from the effect on my strength,
Please, God, help me find healing at any length.
A doctor calls with good news on my test,
A smile from God made my life feel blest.
God says, “Come to me and find your rest.”
Worry won’t a single day of life add,
Pointless to waste time feeling mad.
God provides us refuge for all life’s demands,
We ask to place all our problems in His hands.
Watch daily for the wink of love from God,
His loving grace offered will leave you awed.
God says, “Come to me and find your rest.”
Poem by Yvonne Morgan
God will carry our burdens for us and give us His peace. Trust in Him during these troubling times, and He will give you rest. Click To Tweet28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30

Prayer
Heavenly Father. I am comforted by Your Word. My soul finds rest in You, my God. My salvation comes only from You. You are my rock and salvation. Nothing shakes me because of You. I will dwell in the secret place of the Most High God, and in You I trust. I glorify You for protecting me from the disaster and peril each day. Amen.

Beautiful and poignant poem. I especially love the last paragraph. Worrying will do nothing but make this harder. Giving it up to God and trusting in Him is what we all need to do. 🙂
Thanks so much. We try to make it so complicated when it only takes surrender. I appreciate you visiting. Stay safe and God bless.
I love this poem, Yvonne. The words about receiving a “wink of love” from God have such meaning to me. So often God has shown His love in so many ways, sometimes in humorous ways that have made me laugh out loud. Laughter is healing. Love is healing and He abounds with it. Thank you for a beautiful poem!
You are very welcome. I am glad God uses it to wink at you. Stay safe and God bless.
Your poem is beautiful. Comfort is found in Him. I love to look for His messages in everyday moments. 🙂
Thanks Melissa. I really appreciate you visiting and commenting. I hope all is well. Stay safe and God bless.
I love your poem! It’s so timely, too, considering our circumstances. I was just thinking of writing poetry again (haven’t in years!) because I watched this movie last night called, “Paterson.” It’s about this bus driver who writes poetry. You should watch it! It’s well done. But yeah… poetry speaks the heart’s longing. Thanks for sharing – well done!
I will check out the movie, sounds interesting. My mom wrote poetry so I like to try my hand at it. I do think it can say more than words alone. Thanks Lisa. I appreciate your thoughts. Stay safe and God bless.
Your poem brought great refreshment and encouragement. The repetition of “God says, ‘Come to me and find your rest,'” brought home the main point, the essential truth. We can find no rest apart from the Lord. And, we must habitually come to him for that rest. Thank you for sharing this. It provides great encouragement to me during a time of trial.
I pray that God will continue to provide you rest and peace during this time of trial. The weight of these times can overwhelm us to the point we forget to go to Him. Stay safe and God bless.
Yvonne, I’m enjoying and loving your poems. It’s a true gift and another blessed aspect of your writing.
Thank you. Your kind words humble me especially coming from such a talented writer and woman of God. My mom loved to play around with poetry and so I feel connected to her when I write them. Stay safe and God bless.
Such a beautiful and comforting poem, Yvonne! The perfect words for such a time as this. Truly God alone is our hope and strength. May we rest in Him and look for His touch in our lives. God bless you!
Thanks so much Melissa. He is our only hope for the strength to go on. Stay safe and God bless.
Poems are so soothing, thanks for sharing yours. Love “a smile from God provides us a life-line” so true and encouraging!
Thanks Mary. Stay safe and God bless
