A Story of Hope and Purpose

Today, I will share a story of hope and purpose. I pray it encourages you.

Turning Mountains into molehills

The Sad, little wildflower

The spring rains fell upon the parched lands as the earth awoke from its winter slumber. Signs of regeneration popped up everywhere. A renewed sense of hope settled in as everyone looked towards a new season. Humans planted their tulip and daffodil bulbs so the gardens would pop with colors that drove away any remaining drabness of winter.

A Story of Hope and Purpose

Down the roadway, a small shoot of green poked its head through the soften dirt. The shoot stretched upward as far as she could. “I can’t wait to feel the sunshine on my leaves,” she said. “What kind of flower will I be? I hope my humans love me and display me in a crystal vase for all to see.”

Days went by as the little plant grew. One day, the little seedling noticed a hint of pink color form around its head. “I love pink,” she thought to herself. “Soon, I will be the envy of all the other flowers.” Footsteps echoed over the soil as the little plant stood as tall as possible.

“Another weed,” said the man. “I hope it does not choke out my beautiful tulips. Time to get rid of it.”

“A weed. I am not a weed,” cried the little flower. Tears ran down its tiny leaves. “Can’t he see that I am a delicate flower.” The man disappeared into the shed as the weed waited to see what her future held. Hours went by, but he did not return. The flower drooped its head as she heard rustling nearby.

“What’s the matter little one?” asked the calm voice.

“I just found out that I am a weed. My heart told me I was going to be a flower. I feel unwanted and unloved,” she answered.

“You are not a weed, you are a wildflower. I created you to be wild and free. Wildflowers are my gift for people to enjoy because I want to show them how much I love them,” he said.

Jesus Changes Everything

“Are you Jesus, the creator of the world?” Would you please make me into a red rose, so the people will love me. I know you can do it because you can do anything,” she said.

Jesus smiled at the wildflower. “You are who I made you to be. A wildflower would not be happy as a rose. Nor would a rose be satisfied as a wildflower. Envy of others for their gifts will not make you better, it will only make you bitter. How about I give you a name to make you feel loved, I will call you Pink Lady,” Jesus said. “You have a purpose that no one else can do. Be you, and you will find happiness. Remember, I love you just the way you are right now. I love all my creations. If you love me back, someday you can spend eternity with me in heaven.”

“I will try to be happy with how you made me,” Pink Lady said. She tried to smile and be thankful for all God had done for her. But, her heart was not in it. How could she, a wildflower but almost a weed, have a purpose.

The Purpose

Days went by as Pink Lady tried her best to perk up. Then one morning she heard footsteps again. “I guess this will be the end for me,” she signed. “I guess I will never know my purpose.” She felt a hand grasp tightly around her leaves and yank upwards. The little flower’s heart sank. But, instead of being thrown aside, she heard a small giggle as she was carried into the house.

“Looking mommy, I picked you a pretty flower.” said a small voice.

“Oh, honey. It is beautiful. Thank you. I will put it in a vase in the window here so I can enjoy it,” said another voice.

The Pink lady felt the warmth of the sun through the sparkling vase as the water swirled around her. She smiled to herself as remember the words of Jesus. “I guess I really do have a purpose. I just needed to trust and believe,” she said. The little wildflower stood up taller in the vase as she whispered a prayer of thanksgiving.

He Give us Hope and Purpose

God created each of us with a purpose. He wants to give you a story of hope and purpose. Even when things are not going the way we planned, trust Him with your tomorrows. He loves you completely and eternally.

I love that story. Beautiful and very meaningful for us. Interesting that dandelions are considered weeds by most of us, but my grandmother used to pick them and use parts of them to make a tea to remove excess water from her body, like a diuretic. Just like the weeds/wildflowers, we all have purpose if we trust God to work in us.

I love this story of the wildflower, Yvonne! It’s so touching, and the sentiments Pink Lady experienced often belong to us. We think our future looks hopeless or it’s not what we hoped for. Thankful we can trust the Lord with our todays and our tomorrows.

What a beautiful story. I remember when I was a child and I picked a dandelion for someone only to be told it was just a weed. This was moving in how you correlated that to how we feel. Love.
